The Coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government (LG ) Chairmen in Enugu State has backed the impeachment of the former Acting Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, Mr Ben Nwoye.
The Leader of the group and Coordinating Chairman of APC LG Chairmen in the state, Mr Jude Anyadire, said this on Thursday when he led 12 other chairmen on a solidarity visit to the current Acting Caretaker Committee Chairman, Mr Chikwado Chukwunta, in Enugu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Chukwunta was, until his elevation, the Acting Vice Chairman of the party in the state.
Anyadire described the emergence of Chukwunta as the tonic that would usher in peace and stability in the state chapter of the party.
He expressed the hope that all the in-house bickering, which factionalised APC, would become a thing of the past.
“What led us to where we are today should not have happened but we are happy that you have come to unify the party.
“We want to mobilise members of the party to usher in a virile opposition that will speak for residents of the state and hold government to account,” Anyadire said.
Also, the APC chairman in Isi-Uzo LGA, Mr Titus Nnamani, said it was sad that the party lost its voice in the past years.
“Our party as the main opposition party in the state over the years lost the credibility and mandate to hold the government to account due to internal wrangling and personal interests.
“We are in support of the removal of the former acting chairman and it is now a new dawn.
“We have come to congratulate you because the party has taken a new direction,” Nnamani said.
“We have people like former Senate President, Chief Ken Nnamani, former Gov. Sullivan Chime, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, and former House of Assembly Speaker, Mr Eugene Odoh, in the party.
“These are some of the best the state has ever produced. Yet, we have not won elections due to self-inflicted crisis,” Nnamani said.
Responding, Chukwunta said he was on a rescue mission, having understood the challenges the party had passed through.
He said that he would do everything possible to unite the members and run an administration that would lead the party to greater height.
“We have seen the problems of the party and will do everything possible to put it in good stead. “We are going to work to bring everyone on board,” Chukwunta said.
NAN recalls that 46 of 57 members of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party had on Aug. 10 removed Nwoye.
He was accused of insubordination and violation of the party’s constitution.
The SWC also alleged that the ousted chairman was stoking crisis in the party, which factionalised it, making it to under achieve in the state.
When contacted, Nwoye described his impeachment as a ruse.
He said that he was still in charge, describing those who impeached him as “imposters”.

The Osun Progressive (TOP), a faction within the Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC), has alleged that some people within the party and government are planing to attack leaders of the faction.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday in Osogbo, the TOP Chairman, Rev. Adelowo Adebiyi, said the planned attack was as a result of the group’s struggle to restructure and re-energise the party.
Adebiyi, however, said that the alleged plan has been reported to the security agencies for investigation and for other necessary steps.
“This urgent press conference is aimed at putting on record, information on attempt by some elements, allegedly within government and our party (APC), to attack and murder some of the leaders of TOP.
“It is important that we bring to public knowledge this evil intention.
“We have informed relevant security agencies, who have assured us of taking steps to investigate the information and ensure protection of the lives of the leadership and members of our caucus.
“We plead with President Muhammadu Buhari, the Inspector-General of Police, Director General of Department of State Service, Chief of Staff to the President, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chief Bisi Akande, to quickly intervene and stop desperate elements in Osun APC from spilling the blood of the innocent for their selfish interests,” Adebiyi said.
Also speaking, the Caretaker Secretary of the APC in the state, Mr Rasaq Salinsile, said the leadership of TOP decided to make the “plan” known to the public to avoid casualties.
Salinsile said that violence is alien to the progressives’ family, until some ‘elements’ joined the party recently.
“TOP leadership knows who to hold responsible, should any attack be carried out on any member of the group or those of the party, who are loyal to the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.”
But in a swift reaction, the APC Caretaker Chairman in the State, Mr Gboyega Famodun, said the allegation is baseless.
Famodun, who spoke through his Media Consultant, Mr Kola Olabisi, said the allegation should be disregarded.
“The allegation is unfounded. It cannot be substantiated. It should be disregarded. Anybody can come up with any allegation.
“TOP should show the proof of their allegation.
“We are members of the same family. Nobody is thinking evil against anybody,” Famodun said.

The Republic of Indonesia, has expressed regret over the arrest of a Nigerian diplomat in Jakarta, Indonesia.
This was even as it said the arrest was an isolated incident and did not, in any way, affect the commitment of the Indonesian Government to carry out its obligations as host country in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, in a statement made available to our source in Abuja through the Embassy of Indonesia in Nigeria, said the South Jakarta Immigration Office, has given a full account of the incident involving the diplomat that took place on 7 August 2021.
The Indonesian Government also said that following the incident, it continued to maintain communication through diplomatic channels with the Government of Nigeria.
The government recalled that the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Usra Hendra Harahap, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, on 10 August, 2021.
The Indonesian Government further said the Director General for Asia Pacific and Africa and the Director General for Protocol and Consular of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, also met with Ambassador-designate of Nigeria in Jakarta on 11 August, 2021.
“During the meeting of 11 August 2021, we discussed the good and strong bilateral relations between Indonesia and Nigeria.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs regrets the incident that took place on 7 August, 2021.
“It was an isolated incident and does not, in any way, affect our commitment to carry out our obligations as host country in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
“The Ministry of Law and Human Rights has also conducted an internal investigation in response to the incident,” the government of Indonesia said.

No fewer than 816 persons have died from cholera infection as outbreak of the epidemic continues to ravage more communities across the country, Director General, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, has said.
Speaking yesterday, in Abuja, during the 18th ministerial briefing organised by Presidential Communication Team, he said the epidemic has spread to 22 states, warning that over 31,000 people have been infected.
Also speaking at the event, Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, faulted ongoing doctors strike under the auspices of National Association of Resident Doctors(NARD), saying embarking on an industrial action in the midst of the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic with the arrival of Delta variant, cholera outbreak in 22 states and marburg virus (similar to Ebola) was not only dangerous but unconscionable.
While acknowledging the danger the COVID-19 Delta variant has brought to the country, Ehanire, however, ruled out another lockdown of the country.
“Lockdown is a very last measure that countries are taking because lockdown stifles economic activity, restricts freedom and your businesses – corporate, government, private business all are affected. So it’s not something you do easily. And of course when we were compelled to have lockdown at the beginning, we learnt a lot of lessons. You know, at that time government provided palliatives to mitigate the impact if you couldn’t go to market or couldn’t do your business. But this is not what government is aiming to do; no government wants to lockdown. In countries where they have serious threats, they had to do what they call a precision lockdown, like in the UK.”
The minister decried the strike by doctors appealing to them to return to work.
“I think Nigeria is probably the only country in the world today where doctors are dropping work in the middle of a threat to the whole country. So that’s what we have advised. There has been no threat. We are just appealing, all of us are doctors, all of us went through the same residency. We’re saying this is not the time let’s continue to talk about it. Do not put people’s lives at risk.”
He said Federal Government would apply the International Labour Organisation (ILO) policy of “No Work, No Pay”, if the doctors insisted on carrying on with the strike, saying they would not be paid from tax payers money for doing nothing.
He also denied threatening to sack resident doctors who withdrew their services since August 2 over alleged poor conditions of service, saying all engagements and consultations so far have been to appeal to them to call off the strike.
He said majority of the demands raised by the doctors were under the jurisdiction of state governments.
Director General of National Agency For Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, explained that recent delays associated with the application of mModerna vaccines donated by the US government was as a result of laboratory testings where some insignificant quantities had bar-coding errors which had to be sorted.
She said the agency was working round the clock to resolve the slight hitches which had nothing to do with the vaccine quality.
She said in the previous vaccination exercises 12,000 Nigerians reported mild side effects.
Executive Director/CEO, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuiab, said in order to further combat the spread of COVID-19, the Federal Government has procured over 29 million single dose of Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccines at the cost of $298.5 million (over N122 billion) to enable the country vaccinate 70 per cent of eligible members of the population.
He said 176,000 doses of Johnson and Johnson vaccines that arrived the country with roll out schedule for Monday, was part of 29 million doses the government procured that is being expected.
Shuaib said the J&J doses would be administered to those who are in hard-to-reach areas.
“The balance of the vaccine will subsequently be delivered in monthly tranches,” he said.
“This batch of J&J vaccine will be focused on those who are in the hard-to-reach areas, riverine.”

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, has again berated the Federal Government for lack of commitment to tackle the security challenges in Nigeria.
According to the governor, security forces in the government of President Muhammadu Buhari have demonstrated capacity with the arrest of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu; and Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho.
Ortom, who spoke on Channels Television’s ‘NewsNight’ programme, on Monday, challenged Buhari’s government to go after bandits and herdsmen killing, raping and kidnapping people all over the country with the same gusto it has used to pursue separatists.
Recall that in the last few months, secessionist agitation has been loud in the Southern part of the country, championed mainly by Kanu and Igboho. The agitators cited perceived injustice in the allocation of resources and appointments into critical offices, insecurity, under-development, amongst reasons for wanting to leave the country.
Kanu, who was based in the United Kingdom, was recently hastily extradited from a foreign country. He has been detained in the custody of the Department of State Service, DSS, and is facing terrorism-related charges before Justice Binta Nyako at a Federal High Court in Abuja.
On the other hand, the secret police raided Igboho’s Ibadan residence in July, killed two of his associates and arrested 12 of them. The DSS declared Igboho wanted after he narrowly escaped the raid. He was, however, intercepted at an airport in Benin Republic while he tried to catch a flight to Germany. The agitator has spent about three weeks in a Beninese custodial facility while the Nigerian Government has been pushing for his extradition.
Many Nigerians have constantly lampooned the Buhari regime for allegedly sparing bandits and terrorists on the rampage in the northern part of the country while security forces clamp down on Igboho, Kanu and other separatists.
Speaking on Monday night as a guest on the television programme, Ortom alleged that killer militiamen had consistently targeted his state because he banned open grazing.
The governor said: “I see a lot of lack of commitment on the part of the Federal Government in ensuring that we have security in this country. I will give an example: recently, the Federal Government has demonstrated the capacity by going after Nnamdi Kanu, who was leading IPOB. I am told he was even arrested in a foreign land with the cooperation of Interpol and so on.
“I heard that Sunday Igboho has been arrested. With that kind of commitment, it shows that the Federal Government has the capacity.
“Today, bandits, Fulani militia are terrorising the entire country, the country is in disarray and these Fulani militias have come out with video clips…and they have identified where they are. It was amazing that a top government official comes out to say that the Fulani militias are invisible.
‘’How? Are they spirits? Why is the government not going after these Fulani militias and bandits that are terrorising the entire country and terrorising my state?
“Just two days ago, two humanitarian workers were gunned down in my own village by these Fulani militias and their phones taken away. And the Fulani militias took the phones and when one of their (victims’) brothers called, they confirmed that they had killed them and they are in possession of their phones and that they should tell me to repeal the prohibition of open grazing otherwise they have the right to continue to kill since I said there would be no open grazing in Benue State.
“These people who are here, who are calling themselves bandits and are kidnapping our children from school, who are calling themselves Fulani militia and are killing people, driving them from their lands and taking over, why is the Federal Government not going after them like they went after Sunday Igboho and went after Nnamdi Kanu?”
Ortom said over 1.5 million persons have been displaced in Benue State due to the attacks by marauders, adding that the All Progressives Congress administration has failed in all aspects of governance.

A coalition of youth associations in the nine states that make up Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to inaugurate the Governing Board of the Commission, whose members had been screened and confirmed by the Senate, following the completion of the forensic audit.
In a statement by Tamunopriye Alaibo, national president; Okon Udo Archibong, general secretary and Uche Onyema, publicity secretary, the coalition observed that the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio. confirmed on Monday that the forensic audit of the NDDC had been concluded and ready to be submitted to President Buhari.
It said with the completion of the audit, President Buhari should inaugurate the NDDC Governing Board ‘to ensure accountability, equitable representation and rapid development of the NDDC states.
The coalition meander President Buhari that while receiving the Ijaw National Congress at the State House in Abuja, in June, he promised that the NDDC Board would be inaugurated as soon as the forensic audit report was submitted.
According to the group, President Buhari had said: ‘Based on the mismanagement that had previously bedevilled the NDDC, a forensic audit was set up and the result is expected by the end of July 2021. I want to assure you that as soon as the forensic audit report is submitted and accepted, the NDDC Board will be inaugurated.’
It said that as Niger Delta governors, ethnic nationalities, statesmen and civil society organisations have demanded, it supports the inauguration of the Governing Board, in compliance with the NDDC Act and to ensure full representation of the constituent states.
‘We wish to caution that any further delay in inaugurating the Board of NDDC will unnecessarily aggravate the heightened tension in the entire Niger Delta region, which unfortunately is inimical to the peace so far enjoyed in the region which lays the golden eggs that sustain the nation’s economy,” it said.
The group called on President Buhari to follow through on his promise and inaugurate the Board he nominated in 2019, which was confirmed by the Senate.
‘Since the inauguration of the Board was put on hold in November 2019, the NDDC has been run by Interim Managements and a sole administrator who have been utilising the funds of the Commission without any significant development projects commissioned in the constituent states in the last two years. Our people have suffered untold neglect from the absence of representation in management. The NDDC Act provides for a Board that has membership from all the nine constituent states, which is what Mr President followed in nominating the Board now awaiting inauguration,’ it said.
The coalition said Niger Delta people can no longer endure a prolonged wait before the Board takes over ‘as our region has been yearning for the impact of the NDDC these past years.
‘We, therefore, urge Mr President to speedily inaugurate the NDDC Board to ensure fair representation of the nine constituent states, accountability in the utilisation of the NDDC funds, checks and balances and due process in the Commission in compliance with the NDDC Act.’

Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, has said that even though the Federal Government has no money to maintain its international airports, there are no plans to sell them.
Speaking during a zoom call on airport concession on Tuesday, Sirika said that the government only plans to concession for a period of time, after which it would revert to the Federal Government because , according to him, there are no plans to put the assets of the country into the hands of private investors.
He said the airports are not performing optimally and are not being operated to its full capacity, hence the need to concession only the terminals of the international airports in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt.
He also gave assurance that the labour unions would be carried along and that before any agreement is signed between the FG and the concessionaire, there would be structures in place to ensure that no workers in the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) lose their jobs.
“Our airports are sub-optimal and they are not being operated to the capacity that can attain and government has no money to continue to invest in these airports. They are competing against healthcare, education, security, etc. That is why we want investors to come and invest so we can make more money and they would employ more people.
“The population growth is being affected so the airports are overstretched. We had 60 million people when Lagos airport was built, so our infrastructure must meet up with that number. We had 8 million passengers before but now, we are doing 19 million…”
