This was confirmed on Thursday shortly after the draw for the Champions League group stage.

Jorginho wins the award ahead of teammate N’Golo Kante and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.

The three midfielders were the final three on the shortlist for the prize.

Jorginho, 29, enjoyed a brilliant campaign in Europe last season as Chelsea won the Champions League.

His year got even better as he won the European Championships with Italy after playing in every match.
