(PDF) On July 9, 2021, the VDOE will add a final year to the transition period for Desmos Virginia calculators. Until the summer of the 2021-2022 school year, school departments can continue to provide one of the approved portable calculators to students taking the online version of math tests based on the 2016 Math Learning Standards. Starting in the 2022-2023 school year, students will use the Desmos Virginia calculator provided in the TestNav app during an online SOL test. K-12 SOL conferences in English use a train-the-trainer model to provide professional development focused on the ongoing implementation of engaging teaching in accordance with the 2017 Learning Standards and Curriculum Framework. The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is a national leader in using technology to develop and manage Standards of Learning (SOL) tests. Virginia school departments have been conducting online testing for students for more than a decade. Innovations include a new test delivery system, a computer-adaptive format for most math and reading tests, and the use of various technology-optimized elements. Virginia also added an online calculator from Desmos to improve students` experience on online math tests. Content guidelines are being developed for all Biology II and Geosciences II curricula. The purpose of the content guidelines is to inform education and ensure that content is covered equitably across the Commonwealth.
These are policies and ministries can adjust them to meet the needs of students in their schools. All students in the tested classes and courses are expected to participate in the Virginia Assessment Program, unless specifically exempted by federal or state law or Board of Education regulations. Virginia`s grading system includes students with disabilities and students learning English. Students with disabilities and LEs may take tests for learning standards with or without accommodation, or they may be assessed through alternative assessment. The tests that make up the Virginia Assessment Program are offered in English only. Tests are not allowed in other languages. To earn a standard degree for students entering ninth grade for the first time in 2018-2019 and beyond, a student must earn at least 22 standard credit units and five verified credit units. Students earn standard credits by successfully completing both mandatory and elective courses. Students earn verified credits by passing required courses and passing associated SOL tests at the end of the course or other assessments approved by the State Board of Education.
