So you have your new Commander product and you`ve played a few games, but now you want to take some of those cards and play them in a tournament. But then you realized you didn`t know what format they are legal in. They`re certainly not standard-legal, but they have modern limitations, so does that mean you can use them in a modern tournament? A map is only legal in Modern if it was printed in one of the sets listed on this page (and not specifically on the prohibited list). Reprints in complementary products (commander decks, duel decks, conspiracy, etc.) do not count, nor do special promotional versions or masterpiece versions. Sol Ring has never been printed in any of the modern format sets, so it is not legal in modern. I have a commander who prints a floor ring. Is this card legal for the modern format? You will notice that Modern is not listed as one of the legal formats. In fact, it is so powerful that it is banned in Legacy and restricted in Vintage. What about the new maps that have been printed? In which tournaments can I use cards like Unexpectantly Absent or Bane of Progress? You can use them in legacy or vintage tournaments. Vintage and Legacy are what we call “eternal formats,” meaning that unless the card is banned or restricted, you can use just about one card from any Magic set. These include special sets such as Commander 2013. And while maps may have a modern setting, that`s not what the modern format is looking for (it`s just a how-to guide). New cards printed in Commander 2013 are therefore not legal in Modern (or Standard).

Special sets (such as Commander 2013 or Duel Decks) do not affect the legality of a card. Just because a card like Sol Ring was printed in Commander 2013 doesn`t mean Sol Ring in Modern is legal, because Sol Ring is not printed in a modern-legal set. But you could use a printed map in a modern-legal set (like Wrath of God), since Wrath of God was legally printed in a modern set. Even vintage doesn`t get 4x Solring. That`s how broken it would be. Is Sol Ring legal in the modern era, if so, why don`t I hear about it? The eye of your-Golem is legal in modern and has the same ability. Over time, the craftsman`s art of capturing the light of a distant star in a ring of pure gold is lost. No. Ordering is a complementary product, which means that the cards printed on it are not automatically legal in Standard (and therefore Modern). Sol Ring hasn`t been printed in a regular set for a long time, long before the Modern Cut-off (without the masterpiece, as these aren`t filmed as standard either).

If you have further questions about legality, you can search for individual cards on sites like Collectors and www.magiccards.info or scryfall.com. The legal formats of the card are listed. No, only maps published in expansions that were legal in Standard, starting with the 8th edition, are legal in Modern. No. And even if it did, it would probably be banned anyway, I don`t even want to think of a modern format where each deck runs 4x floor ring, although that may mean it`s not included in each commander`s deck, as it will fetch around $20. Eldrazi Temple – (G) (SF) (MC)[[Card Name]] or [[Card Name| SET]] to call – Updated images In short, unless you`re playing Legacy or Vintange, Commander 2013 didn`t add any new cards to the format, but it may have given you a new place to acquire some cards. Have fun!.
