The KCCBA had already begun testing the waters with smaller face-to-face legal education events at the Brooklyn Bar Association, and finally felt ready for something big. The Brooklyn Bar Association celebrates its 150th anniversary in June and celebrates this Thursday, June 2 at 6:30 pm with a party at El Caribe in Mill Basin. There are still a few tickets available on BrooklynBar.org while supplies last. After more than two years of absence due to the COVID pandemic, the Kings County Criminal Bar Association returned triumphantly this month when it held its annual dinner at Giando on the Water. There`s no date for the next CLE, but once the group returns to monthly meetings in September, they expect to be face-to-face again, with no hybrid option, but with dinner and drinks served as traditionally in the past (sushi and soft drinks). The March meeting also again drew at least 25 people, this time more than 125 online, as the Honourable Matthew D`Emic, Administrative Judge of the Kings County Supreme Court, criminal term, and the Honourable Keisha Espinal, Supervising Judge of Kings County Criminal Court, presented “State of Criminal Courts 2022.” Accident and injury products Liability Bodily injury Medical malpractice The big comeback came on the 4th. The KCCBA met at Giando on the Water. It was the same place where the last six annual dinners had been held, but it was only the first since 2019. He will host his annual charity golf tour on August 11 at Marine Park Golf Course.

If people are interested in playing golf with the KCCBA, they should contact Paul Hirsch at [email protected]. The committee that organized the event said the federation was simply trying to come together and have a sense of normalcy, even if that meant holding the event without winners. Of course, Winslow said, the group will try to honor many members of their community who helped lead the profession during COVID at next year`s dinner. This is the first official in-person event since last year`s pandemic, when the KCCBA hosted two Legal Services lawyers, Julie Schaul and Robyn Lear, for a CLE titled “Speedy Trial and Discovery After COVID.” It was actually a hybrid event with 125 registered attendees, about 25 in person, and nearly 100 people joining the group online. The event honors longtime Executive Director Avery Eli Okin, who will retire in June after 36 years, and former President Steven Cohn. It will also recognize all its former presidents who have contributed to its glorious success. In April, Justice Barry Kamins, former president of the KCCBA and former administrative judge of the Kings County Supreme Court, presented his annual update on the Search and Seizure Act, and Allison Lewis of the Legal Services Society gave her annual lecture entitled “DNA: Overview and Updates.” The dinner was different this year — new president Darran Winslow welcomed it for the first time — and the crowd was a little smaller than usual, but still strong with over 100 attendees. There were no winners, as is usually the case.

Sponsorship opportunities still exist. Please consider sponsoring such a special event as we honor some of the people who have meant the most to this club over the years. Sponsorships range from $150 to $25,000. Please click here for more details. Now that it looks like the COVID hump is over and members want to return to in-person events, the KCCBA is planning a CLE at Yankee Stadium in July. The KCCBA had attempted a holiday celebration in December, but cancelled it due to COVID concerns. So it`s not until March 10 that the band can try another personal CLE.
