Until recently, homeowners` associations in Alabama were not regulated by the state. The Alabama Homeowners` Association Act was passed and went into effect on January 1, 2016. It describes the general rules for the establishment and administration of an HOA and the powers of an association of municipalities. It applies to all new municipalities established after that date.
